Today is the day that fellow Canadian Professional Organizers, Elaine Shannon and Kim Eagles from Organizing Connection, and my newest affiliate partners, release their brand new DVD, Organizing the Bedroom.
I had the opportunity to meet Elaine last year at the Professional Organizers Conference and she is an absolute hoot. Her passion for organizing is so contagious and fun. Elaine and Kim had a goal, to develop a way to walk visual learners through their six step organizing process. Through their roles as Professional Organizers they would regularly encounter people who simply couldn’t afford in-person professional organizing services so they decided to create an online organizing DVD series designed to fill this need. Their downloadable series is a low cost solution that people can use conveniently on their own schedule in the privacy of their home.
Elaine sent me the collection of DVD’s to check out and I must say I was very impressed with the professionalism of them. I was also excited because the scripts are uncluttered and easy to follow. Laura, the host of the “show” is engaging and fun to watch and because the videos aren’t overly long in length, the bedroom one is 12 minutes long, you’ll find that they don’t drag on but rather are concise, to the point and entertaining. In addition, to further enhance your organizing experience each DVD also comes with its own e-book and set of worksheets.
I’m definitely a visual learner and therefore I appreciate having someone show me what to do instead of just learning through listening or reading. It makes so much more sense to me when I see it in action.
The four DVD’s currently available for purchase are:
Organizing the Bedroom
Organizing your Mudroom
My Kitchen is my Domain (one of my favorites!)
The Organizing Papertrail
To see for yourself what I’m talking about you can watch a preview of any of the above DVD’s by clicking here.
Today these two lovely ladies are launching the Bedroom DVD set. This set comes complete with a 5 minute video explaining the basics of organizing, a 12 minute video that directs you to organizing success by walking you through the organizing process step by step, using clear and concise directions as well as 11 pages of worksheets and an e-book providing 30 tips to make the master bedroom, a teen’s bedroom or a baby’s bedroom a restful haven, all available for instant download.
So in honor of the bedroom DVD launch I have a hard copy of this DVD available that I’d like to give away to one of you. Please leave a comment on this post answering the following question:
Tell me what one thing you could part with today in your bedroom to help move you towards the restful retreat you know it can be. Perhaps it’s old clothes you no longer wear, dishes, laundry piles, books stacked to the roof, paper, whatever it is keeping you from enjoying your space, get rid of it.
Comment must be left by Friday, September 25th at 6:00 pm PST to be eligible to win.
Good luck and happy organizing!

Hi,
I have no idea if am eligible, being based in India, but I absolutely love your site and am passionate about organizing.
So, while my bedroom is quite organized, the one thing that I would love to part with in order to create a more peaceful haven will be my toddler’s toys. We have a small apartment and share our room with our 18 month old.. Her toys are all over the place and despite having boxes to store them in, they simply take over the whole room. So, there you go, Toddler Toys in Mommy’s Bedroom.
Best wishes!

I would love to sort through my closet and get rid of clothes I have not worn in 1+ years. I think I will free up a lot of closet space!
Ness @ Drovers Run on September 23rd, 2009 12:25 am
The very old chest of drawers! The bottom drawer is broken, and yet it’s *still* in our bedroom, not being used fully…what a waste of a space!
Ginny on September 23rd, 2009 12:40 am
The problem in my bedroom is the stuff that has no home. There are DVDs and VCR tapes in piles, craft projects, pictures that have yet to be hung, books, magazines, etc., etc. It’s not that I’m a bad organizer, but sometimes I just can’t see past the clutter to a real solution.
Joyce on September 23rd, 2009 1:01 am
I need to get rid of old lotions. I kept getting lotions as gifts from people for a long time, and I’d start using them, but never finished.
Tamara on September 23rd, 2009 1:12 am
I would love to have a place for all the books in my room, the persian rugs from under my bed and the computer in the corner.
Michele D on September 23rd, 2009 2:24 am
Books. Tons of books. Stacked everywhere. They are clutter and need to be donated. I know this, I need to do this. I do, I will. Sigh.
Karrisa on September 23rd, 2009 2:44 am
Let’s see… Only one? I’ve got clothes that I have even touched since we moved here, a box of stuff from a former direct sales venture, a pile of pillows in the corner that we never bother to put on the bed, a comforter that matches those pillows because I’ve been too lazy to take it to the cleaners, and much more! Unfortunately, the bedroom has been at the bottom of my “to-organize” list because it’s not a room that most company will ever see.
Kim on September 23rd, 2009 2:55 am
Magazines! A huge pile of, I’ll read them later but don’t ever seem to have the time and so they just sit there gathering dust, stack of magazines! LOL
Great giveaway.
Hugs.
Kim
laura on September 23rd, 2009 3:47 am
i could totally get rid of the magazines that are stacked on my bookshelf. i think i will this weekend, now that i’ve been inspired, but i would still love to win the book!
LoriD on September 23rd, 2009 3:57 am
My husband’s pile of “to be sorted clothes” – they have been sitting in a pile for about a month.
Sherri S on September 23rd, 2009 4:07 am
Wow! How nice and I sure do need to TAME my bedroom. I just sorted the closets a few months ago and donated a TON of clothes. Whatever is hidden…I mean ’stored’ under the bed needs to GO! Books, old shoes! I’m LOVING your menu planning site! Was my 1st week.
Terry on September 23rd, 2009 4:13 am
I could part with the shelf and knickknacks on the wall in my bedroom. It’s been there for almost 6 years now and my style has changed but I never update this area. And really, I’d like to have less there now.
Megan on September 23rd, 2009 4:24 am
I could get rid of some clothes. I have clothes of all different sizes. Pre-babies, inbetween babies, post babies, and only about 2/3 or them actually fit. If I get rid of a bunch of that, my bedroom would be so much more relaxing!
Natalie on September 23rd, 2009 4:37 am
I’m in Australia, so not sure if I qualify for the giveaway.
But wondering if removing the 4yo that sleeps in my bed all night counts?
I think though the pile of random junk that is piling up in the corner of my room I could do without.
Angela D. on September 23rd, 2009 4:41 am
I would love to get rid rid of the artificial Christmas tree in the box that takes up about six by two feet. We didn’t have any place to store it and it’s too big to go under my bed so it’s been leaning against a wall in my room for the last eight months.
Kelly on September 23rd, 2009 4:43 am
Our bedroom is actually pretty tidy and uncluttered, so there’s not much – it’s just too small to have anything in there other than our bed and clothes … but right now we are rennovating our spare room, so our cat’s food, which is usually kept in there, is in our bedroom. It drives me nuts to have to step over it, and last night they were chasing food around and stalking it in the middle of the night, which is certainly not restful! So looking forward to getting that out of there!
Colleen on September 23rd, 2009 4:46 am
Our bedroom has an alcove which is supposed to be a reading nook. In reality, it becomes the haven for all the stuff I don’t have time to put away — clothes, books, household flotsam and jetsam. Our closet is also a wreck. I could use the help!
Meredith on September 23rd, 2009 4:55 am
I have piles of junk on the floor under a chair and on top of a bookshelf. These piles include old mail, random knick-knacks, craft things, pictures, etc. that have no home.
andrea on September 23rd, 2009 5:09 am
dirty clothes, clean clothes .. . clothes!!
Sometimes, I still feel like a teenager with the piles of clothes I let accumulate. Otherwise, it’s pretty tidy.
cindi klemm on September 23rd, 2009 5:23 am
Our bedroom looks like a tornado came thru it. I just don’t know where to put anything. It is a pretty ugly room and I hate it.
cindi klemm on September 23rd, 2009 5:26 am
I could part with the huge old desk full of burn marks that isn’t utilized at all except to store stuff on top of and underneath. I think that would go a long way in helping our bedroom to feel somewhat more restful – well that would be a start anyway. I should have read the instructions when I first posted hence the 2nd post.
Kathy Lewis on September 23rd, 2009 5:30 am
I try to be organized – at work I am know as the “organizer”, but at home I have my secrets…. I start but don’t finish. In my bedroom there are bags of cloths to be donated, stacks of receipts that need to go to the office area, magazines that I’m reading (all thirty of them!) by the bed.
I need to treat my bedroom like it was at work…. I would NEVER stand for it there!
Debbi T on September 23rd, 2009 5:34 am
I would get rid of the general clutter. It’s all over. Mismatched socks, books, toys etc.
claudia on September 23rd, 2009 5:34 am
One corner of our room is dedicated to my husband’s workshop. No kidding – his tool boxes, drill sets, some lumber, a light fixture…..good grief!
Tawny on September 23rd, 2009 5:41 am
I would love to get rid of the piles of clothes that build up throughout the week and the stuff that never seems to leave the nightstand.
Christy on September 23rd, 2009 5:46 am
Unfortunately, this is an easy question. I would love to get rid of all the clothes that no longer fit me or my husband. But most of all I would love to get rid of the coffee table in our bedroom. It ended up there when we had a large group of people over for our baby shower, and it doesn’t work in our living room anymore so we just didn’t do anything with it. Now it’s a junk collector in our bedroom.
Christy on September 23rd, 2009 5:50 am
I have so many things in my room to get rid of. I think the glaring problem right now is all of the paper work scattered in semi-piles on the floor that need to be filed away. That would make my bedroom much better looking, but would only be a start.
amy on September 23rd, 2009 5:50 am
How timely-on Monday, I went through all the books beside my bed, and donated 3 boxes to Goodwill, and organized the rest. Of course, I still have the overstuffed closet. One day at a time!
feener on September 23rd, 2009 5:53 am
clothes, everywhere, on the chair, floor, in the drawers i have not worn them in 5 years at least but they suck the space up……help me !!!!

I would love to get rid of the shoe rack that has become a clutter magnet as well as the baskets of clean laundry that accumulate but never seem to get put away!
Mindy on September 23rd, 2009 6:15 am
I would love to get rid of some old clothes in my closet & then organize the clothes that do fit into some kind of order that would make it easy for me to put together outfits.
Amy on September 23rd, 2009 6:16 am
I would love to get rid of several things in my bedroom. I have laundry baskets full of clothes and stacks of papers that need to be removed and or put away. I am not organized at all and would love the help of this DVD!! I may have to check out the others as well.
Rita on September 23rd, 2009 6:25 am
I would love to get rid of clothes that I have not worn in years and organize the remaining clothes to make it easier to put together an outfit in the morning.
Crystal on September 23rd, 2009 6:25 am
What a great give away! Our bedroom seems to always get “shoved in the corner” when it comes to organizing. There’s always something else to get done. This would be great help me get motivated and get some things done in our room.
Thanks for sharing with us1
Sarah on September 23rd, 2009 6:30 am
I would love to get rid of the baskets full of clean clothes that sit in our room taking up such valuable space. It takes up so much of our time digging through them to find what we need. It really does not help that my one year old loves to go thru these baskets and pull everything out. But I need to get the closet organized before I can put it all in! Help!
Ashley F on September 23rd, 2009 6:35 am
Clothes, Shoes, Old school papers, Books, and finally everything that is sitting (piled) on top of my vanity!! I need help!!

I have this Joy Mangano ClothesDrier that is taking up space in my bedroom. It’s supposed to be for drying delicates quickly, but I rarely use it. It was a waste of money and space.
Think I’ll move it out of the bedroom once and for all.

We recently moved into a new house and fortunately I was able to de-clutter many items from out bedroom! One thing that I would like to remove is the piles of laundry that always end up on the floor – despite my best efforts! Also, my dresser top seems to be the haven for anything that doesn’t have a permanent home, it get’s cluttered so fast!
MissB on September 23rd, 2009 6:47 am
clothes. and not just mine!!!! everyone’s clothes are EVERYWHERE
Cindy on September 23rd, 2009 6:57 am
I’d love to find a better solution to the piles of CLEAN laundry in my bedroom. It’s the best place to fold it in my house but it always seems to be there. If it’s not all folded each night it’s put back in laundry baskets on my floor until the next day. I need help bz my bedroom is anything but restful!
Susan on September 23rd, 2009 6:59 am
I would love to get rid of that one little box in my closet that has old love letters from an old flame. Something is not letting me do that, maybe it is good memories that we once shared together, But my husband of 15 years does not know they still exist, and I do not want to hurt his feelings! I guess I should Burn them and have a little ceremony!!!
Gretchen on September 23rd, 2009 7:05 am
Agh. Where to start? The biggest thing would be the crib that none of my three children have ever slept on. But to do that, I have to clean the top of a dresser so I can move the mouse cage that is on the crib’s Rail Rider to the dresser. Yep! It’s a disaster in my house. I’m new to this organizing thing…
Kendra Lebo on September 23rd, 2009 7:05 am
Help me. I’m the most disorganized/organized mess. My clothes never make it to the dresser or closet. My husband keeps saying we need more laundry baskets. So he buys them. Nope, we need to learn to put them away. And we both have entirely too much clothing, but we still hang on to it.
EaglesWings (deb) on September 23rd, 2009 7:06 am
I would love to sort through the boxes from our move in June and get them organized!
Sara on September 23rd, 2009 7:12 am
I really need to get rid of a bunch of old clothes that don’t fit anymore. I know if I would just clear them all out of my closet and dresser, I would have so much more room for the things that do fit and the things I actually wear to be organized!
Janet on September 23rd, 2009 7:18 am
Clothes and mismatched or crunchy socks. ugh! Also some empty storage bins and an easel I never use.
Laura on September 23rd, 2009 7:22 am
We have far too many piles of laundry around our bedroom that I really need to put away. This happens all the time and I don’t know how to get out of this rut.
Jennifer Bennett on September 23rd, 2009 7:31 am
Books, books & more books…Ugh!!!
Amber on September 23rd, 2009 7:33 am
I definitely need to go through my closet and get rid of unused clothes!
Also, my husband always piles his washed clothes on an ottoman in our room and doesn’t put them away. I’m trying to find a creative solution/hiding place for this ever-present pile of washed clothes.
Great giveaway, thanks for hosting it!
Mandy on September 23rd, 2009 7:42 am
I would love to get rid of almost EVERYTHING, hide it in the closet, something to make it more of a bedroom retreat and not such a miss mash that my husband created
He likes to “decorate”
Teresa on September 23rd, 2009 7:51 am
The one thing that I “could” get rid of is my oldest daughers stuff that moved when I did since she had no where to store it. Now *I* have no where to store it so it sits in my bedroom beside my bed and in my closet. That, along with the fact that youngest daughter and I have to share a room, means that there is no space for me to “pretty” up my bedroom.
Rebecca on September 23rd, 2009 8:00 am
Clothes. Definitely clothes — the summer stuff is still out as we still have warm days, but the winter stuff is 1/2 out (cold nights); so we have overflowing drawers and armoires. He piles his excess atop the armoire (gives me fits). I pile mine atop the bureau (more fits).
Wendy on September 23rd, 2009 8:00 am
I could easily make a list here, but for this I’ll use a “catch-all” and say I need to get rid of all the things with no home that do not belong in the bedroom, e.g., craft bag, make-up bags (free with purchase!), etc.
Janeen on September 23rd, 2009 8:01 am
There are so many things I could (and should!) part with. But if I have to pick just one I’ll pick bills and papers that need to be filed. I have a place for these, but for some reason they end up on my dresser and cause clutter and chaos.
Erin on September 23rd, 2009 8:04 am
Hummm… I would have to say my husband! Just kidding. But seriously, he demanded a laundry basket in the closet so he can throw his dirty clothes in it (b/c the shoot is just so far away in the bathroom). Think he uses it? Heck no! They are all over the floor. And don’t get me started about his shoes! Think women are bad, come meet my husband!
Jenn on September 23rd, 2009 8:06 am
I could definitely part with older/never worn clothes to free up some closet space. We have an older home that lacks in the closet areas!! I would love to get all our clothes in 1 place!
misty on September 23rd, 2009 8:09 am
I hate how cotton shrinks. Over the years my husband has also grown to hate this so we dry all of our cotton t-shirts on a drying rack… IN OUR BEDROOM. I hate it. It is the room we are in least so there are often times when the tshirts come down, only when the next weeks tshirts go up…
ace135 on September 23rd, 2009 8:09 am
What great timing! I was just lamenting LAST NIGHT about how my bedroom needed a serious makeover!! It’s just sad – we’ve been in the house for nearly seven years and have invested no time in making it a special place of slumber and relaxation. For shame!
Amber @ Classic Housewife on September 23rd, 2009 8:12 am
One thing I could get rid of out of my room today…
I ashamed, ASHAMED I TELL YOU!!, to say that after going through so many of your organizational challenges (and one of them being the master bedroom no less) that I am guilty, GUILTY!!, of stacking a few boxes and baskets of papers and things in there when we started working on the kitchen back in May.
And they’re still there! These things definitely need to be gone through and thrown away, put away or given away!!
Angela H on September 23rd, 2009 8:12 am
My poor bedroom has become the catch all room over the last couple of months. The thing that I really need to get out of there is 3 boxes of clothes. 1 box is the maternity clothes that I was wearing when we moved in last November, 1 box is the clothes that will forever not fit anymore or are crazily out dated. lol The last box is clothes that do fit, but need to find their way into the dresser.
Kristin Dennis on September 23rd, 2009 8:22 am
I can never seem to get rid of the pile of books, papers, notepads etc. that I’m currently reading or working on. It just accumulates on top of my dresser that is next to my bed. I sort through it usually daily but it just never seems to get “put away” because I think I’m actually going to find the time to read or write and *sigh* I rarely seem to. So there the pile sits, cluttering up my dresser and staring me in face before I drop into bed each night.
Marcia "HDMac" on September 23rd, 2009 8:22 am
My old clothes…. I really need to go thru them and get rid of them!
Thank you for this opportunity to win.
NerdMom on September 23rd, 2009 8:23 am
Only 1 thing? But I have so many;). We will start with the kid clothes that are to small for the baby. Since she is the last one I need to get rid of them;).
Tami on September 23rd, 2009 8:27 am
ONE Thing! hahahahahaha! My bedroom is a disaster area. It’s the only place in the house the kids (and company) aren’t allowed so everything ends up in there. Right now I’m rearranging dressers (not the drawers – the actual dressers – moving one out and another in.) Then I’ll be looking for donate items and stuff that needs to go into storage. We are a loooonnnngggg way from a sanctuary but I’m working on it.
Flo on September 23rd, 2009 8:41 am
I am currently in the process of de-cluttering and organizing our home (sometimes, with the help of a friend of mine). I would love to win this!!

Extra books! My husband has a ton of piled up books on our bedroom floor. They need to be moved to the bookcase stat!
Jackie on September 23rd, 2009 9:32 am
I would love to get rid of my dresser and replace it with 2 highboy dressers.
I would like to have a place to put all my clothes. I don’t have all that much but between my husband and I we can’t cram everything into one dresser and one closet. The clean laundry ends up staying in the laundry basket until we finally end up wearing the clothes again. A Laundry basket is not for clothing storage!
Melissa Holgate on September 23rd, 2009 9:41 am
I’m working on de-cluttering and organizing the master bedroom this week!
One thing that would/will help is to go through our closet and give away anything we don’t use and organize what we do have into seasons. Our closet is small and there is not room for a dresser, so we really have no choice but to rotate our clothes seasonally.
Kari on September 23rd, 2009 9:43 am

Thanks for doing this!

Right now I have my computer chair in my bedroom because I had to open the futon in my office/guestroom and it doesn’t fit in there with the futon open. I’ve just never got around to closing up the futon and putting the chair back. It’s something that I need to work on but I’ve been trying to catch up with lots of other things that got pushed to the back burner when my husband got sick and after he passed away. Really, if I could, I’d just get rid of everything and start over. I’m in need of a “clean sweep” type crew.
Jillian on September 23rd, 2009 10:24 am
All of my maternity clothes!
Kari Fischer on September 23rd, 2009 10:28 am
Hi there! I’d say the thing I should probably get rid of the most are the bags of maternity clothes that will probably never get worn again (since I’m pretty sure I’m done with that phase!) and the shoes that are so worn out the soles are falling off or the shoes are just in bad shape! I have a bad habit of hanging on to these kinds of things
Getting rid of this kind of stuff would please my husband so much!
Lil' Ms. P on September 23rd, 2009 10:29 am
One thing that I could get rid of is clothes and shoes. Shoes especially! I have so many that are just collecting dust and I really should bless some else who may need them or who would actually wear them.
Tobey on September 23rd, 2009 10:38 am
I guess saying my husband isn’t the right answer is it?? LOL!
It would probably have to be the old standard, the old clothes that I never wear which I do go through on a semi-regular basis but it still never seems to stay tidy enough.

I would like to get rid of the crib!

I would get rid of all the stuffed animals I have collected over the years that have migrated from my bed and shelves to my bedroom floor. Too many memories with each of them to just toss them
Ludim Guzman on September 23rd, 2009 10:52 am
Things that don’t belong in the room that I’ve tossed into the closet – i.e. stacking baskets that could definitely be put to use!, nursing pads that I never used, boxes of thank you cards, etc. Randomness that need a home!
Michelle @ Welcome to my World on September 23rd, 2009 10:56 am
I need to get rid of it all! Except the bed, night stands. dresser. and tv. My room tends to become the catchall storage area…throw in in there until I have time to deal w/ it…and then it builds, and builds and…and then I don’t know where to start!
Tracy Hansen on September 23rd, 2009 11:18 am
Where to begin. It is a mess. Maybe the old clothes first and then the magazines and the kids are projects.

i would love to get rid of all the extra clothes that my girls have outgrown, and the box of shoes also. i would love to have a peaceful quiet resting place in my bedroom, but i just can’t seem to see past the boxes of stuff that are there and are contributing to the frustration. sometimes i tackle a section or two for an hour and make some progress, but it seems like in a few days one of the girls has put some clothes in our room because they don’t fit her and we start all over again……

What a fun giveaway! I would love to have less clutter in my bedroom. It seems like every surface has something/multiple things on it. I would love to have some clean bare surfaces.

There’s a bookcase in our bedroom that would be great for storage–if it weren’t covered in 4 years of collected junk (receipts, VHS tapes, books)! Sorting and purging all that crap would go a long way to making our bedroom a haven.

I could part with my oversized chair that just holds clothes we dont want to put away.
Heather Nicole on September 23rd, 2009 1:14 pm
I could definitely part with my husband’s and my collection of travel bags. Big ones, small ones, old ones, new ones…and all of which neither one of us has ever purchased for ourselves! Between our in-laws and different companies handing out free stuff, we have the market cornered…and it takes up almost 50% of our closet. If we could get rid of those bags, I would have more storage in my closet for something like, oh I don’t know, clothes!
Katie LeBlanc on September 23rd, 2009 1:44 pm
Clothes: mine, his, too large, too small, not enough closet and storage space and in the middle of ALL this he moved in a gun safe that takes up too much room. I am always cleaning out but it doesnt take any time for the clutter to climb again HELP!!!!!

Laundry piles. Every thing I have done to try and get this under control has turned out to be a bust. Laundry totally stresses me out and as soon as I walk in to my bedroom and see the pile that needs to be done or folded, my stress level goes up.

Well, my bedroom is my most organized room! I don’t allow my three kids to bring their toys in there, and I keep our clothes pretty well in order. Perhaps the one weakness is keeping the lingerie drawer from being a wadded up mess.
Now, just don’t ask me about the kids’ bedrooms, kitchen, office, or family room!!

When I converted my daughter’s crib to a toddler bed, one of the sides of the crib ended up in our master bedroom for lack of a better way to store or use it. Of course, I would like to get rid of a great many things in that room, but the crib piece may be the most unique or unusual. Cheers!

I have a messy wardrobe that never stays clean and is a dark so I don’t see all the things tucked in the back. I’ve had lots of lost earrings and hair ties in this thing! I just need some good organization techniques or products to help make it better.

Pillows – I have too many pillows on my bed and they are not working – yet i can’t seem to part with them. Every night they land up on a pile on the floor – tripped over in the middle of the night and cursed at regularly.

Dena on September 23rd, 2009 4:00 pm
My bedroom never gets any help because there are to many other things to do in rooms that people see so I just keep our bedroom door closed. I would get rid of all the pillows my mother-n-law keeps giving us. The two comforters that are laying in the floor (the dog tore up one so I got an old one out to use and then bought a new one. The other two never got put up becuase I need to clean out some closet space to store them.) The bag of clothes that need to go to goodwill. The old magazines I was hoping to read some day which never seems to come with 4 kids.

WOW – I need to remove my whole bedroom I think and start again!!
Seriously it would have to be the clutter underneath my bed… the christmas decorations, the suitcases, the old computer – dare I go on. It’s only a queen size bed but geez there is a mammoth amount hidden under there.

I can do without how my jewelry is organized. I have hundreds of earrings, necklaces, etc and use them all the time. They are currently in a small vanity that has drawers and a side that comes out for necklaces. In the morning rushing around getting ready trying to find jewelry in these dark unorganized compartments is not working for me. I have beautiful jewelry I would like organized to see clearly each day. Thanks!

Good luck to all.

A bag of clothes I no longer where and have ready to go to Goodwill, just haven’t taken the time to get it there. And I really need to sort my shoes, they’ve taken over!
Kathy Casserly on September 23rd, 2009 6:49 pm
First would be an OLD dresser that has horribly tiny drawers, and nothing ever seems to fit in except socks and undies. I would love a new dresser to organize all my clothes. I have a “sock” pile, of mismatched socks that I can’t seem to throw away. I would also thin out my closet and shoes. My closet is a BIG organization problem. Everything seems to get shoved in there. When I need to get something out of the way, it inevitably ends up in my closet. I also have a cedar chest at the end of my bed that seems to collect items on top of it at a phenominal rate…so that would need to be organized too.
Diane on September 23rd, 2009 7:05 pm

My bedroom has a very small closet and, having a small house with little storage, there’s a lot of things that simply have no other place to be. I need a system to keep it all together so I can actually find everything.

I just found your site & I love it! I feel like I can actually start getting more organized. I would get rid of “stuff”, it seems we have lots of it that doesn’t belong in the bedroom but doesn’t really have a home anywhere else either. So it all ends up in our bedroom so the rest of the house can look nice.

I would get rid of our laundry organizer. We don’t have room in our laundry room for a laundry sorter, so we put it in our bedroom, so everytime our kids go to put their dirty clothes in the laundry they have to go in our room to do it and it drives me crazy sometimes.

My husband’s very out dated sound system from college (1980). It resides in a prefabricated stereo stand that he purchased in the late 1990’s. It is made from oak wood and glass. At the time we lived in a old victorian home and that was his concession to making it fit into out home decor. We also have an extensive album collection that resides in our bedroom.

A PILE of books taking up the entire top of my dresser and a closet FULL of clothes that are too small…

My bedroom is one of my catch-all locations. When the papers get piled too high and deep to deal with and people are coming over, I put them all in a box and move them to the bedroom. Then things that need to be filed get continuously added to that box and it runneth over.
kim on September 24th, 2009 4:30 am
Definitely the closet. It’s small and I’d like to organize better to fit my husband’s and my clothes/shoes/etc. and be able to keep it looking neat and tidy.

I have 2 boxes and a bag of paperwork that belong to my 24 year old son. I agreed to “organize” them for him to get him started. I have had these for over a year. I’m fairly certain that when I try to return them, he will present me with a new box that will need to be filed. Then there’s the eliptical machine collecting dust, the fax machine in the corner that is used a couple of times a month….I truly do think I need help!!

It seems that our room is the room that gets all of the “no where else to put it” things and some how we end up with all 4 kids clothes and shoes and what ever else just did not get put away. Our room has enough space just to walk around our bed, so the winter clothes pile that is blocking my husbands side and the pile of books blocking my side just HAVE TO GO!!! Thanks for you r site!!!
katrina on September 24th, 2009 4:59 am
where to begin… Okay, the first thing would be getting rid of clothes that seem to be multiplying. We are family of 6, with 4 children, and we seem to have made our bedroom the dumping off point, LOL, for putting away clothes..Plus we have 3 boxes of things that we inherited from my FIL and MIL and those boxes are right now in our closet, along with clothes from Dh and myself that we may or may not be able to wear anymore…
Toni on September 24th, 2009 5:10 am
Clothes, they seem to multiply. Bags, I have a ton of them.

I have waaaaaay too many books. I love books. I have them in boxes under the bed, stacked in the closet, on the dresser, night table….
It’s hard to part with them because I like to read them over and over. Though now that I think about it, there are a few I could part with.
Also, my computer desk is in here and it gets over-run with various papers.
Thanks so much!

I would get rid of some old clothes and the piles of books on my floor. I try and go through clothing regularly, but I could definitely get rid of some more. I keep looking at my piles of books some of which I’ve read and some I haven’t. I just need to take the time to go through them.

I have purchased many toiletry items on sale. Now my drawers are simply bursting. I need to find a system of organizing the great bounty I’ve aquired.
Alison on September 24th, 2009 5:58 am
Where to begin – pillows that do not go on the bed, clothes “hanger” on one side to dry delicate’s, ironing board, each of us has a side table with all kinds of “stuff” on it and in it, some toys from our daughter, 3 different dressers that we need to go through, and all kinds of dust from our dog and just things in general. Sorry you needed just one!
Ellen on September 24th, 2009 6:01 am
I’m such a clutterbug and keeper of all things my kids made…that it so hard to pick just one thing to dispose of! I guess for my bedroom it would have to be to just “declutter” my dressers…find a place (garbage, maybe?!) for all the things that are stashed on there!
Angela Fowler on September 24th, 2009 6:02 am
Barbie Dolls! I have a huge collection that are put away in boxes and just waiting for me to do something with them. Most of them are collectible and every time I think of sorting through them it just makes me cringe! Right now they’re taking up a whole closet in my bedroom.

We have everything from old baby clothes, to shoes we hardly wear, winter clothes, boxes of pictures that need to go into albums. You name it we got it. I have a HUGE box of my skinny clothes on my hubby’s side of bed. I know it’s in his way sometimes, but he doesn’t complain. I know it’s time for it to go, but keep holding on to it for “just in case”. Also have big pile of laundry on corner of bed (CA King mattress) to be sorted and put away. Let this happen way too often. Would love for our bedroom to be transformed into a romantic retreat. We both deserve it so badly! (so do all you other ladies too)

Books. We have tons of books that we haven’t touched in years (except to make room for other junk). Thanks for your sites and fun ideas.

I have an antique chair in the corner of our bedroom. While it certainly isn’t an eye sore, it really has no purpose. My husband has been using it as a valet of sorts; he puts his gym bag on it and clean clothes he may have worn earlier. But we have hardly any closet space and both dressers are full of necessary clothe items. Perhaps the question isn’t the clutter and what to do with it, but where to store when there isn’t much room.
Vanessa H. on September 24th, 2009 8:51 am
I would love to part with clothes I keep telling myself I will one day fit into again. I also have a small pile of clothes I’ve already decided I’m going to donate. I just need to “do it” and can’t seem to fit in the time.

I need to get rid of the box in my bedroom that is full of used children’s shoes. My three kids were born in three years, so I keep thinking that the next child is going to need the shoes that the older sibling has grown out of. In all reality, used shoes don’t really fit well, so I just need to throw them away!
Pam S on September 24th, 2009 10:12 am
I love your site. I am trying very hard to get some “organizedBliss: like my email, and it is a slow process but with your help, I’m beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For that my husband and I are thankful!
So the first thing I thought of to enjoy our bedroom as a restful getaway, would probably (if I weren’t such a dog lover) would be to move the dog out to another part of the house! But I AM a dog lover, and more important is that I love OUR dog. So can’t do that.
The second thing I thought of is the Pack n Play in our room that belongs to our 2 y/o (and only) grandbaby. But I feel so blessed to have this grandbaby (did I say our first?) and consider it a blessing and an honor to be watching him during the day, M-F. I finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up – a Grandma!
So I will have to say that I would love to (also like Cheryl, posted above) be able to clear out my stuff……..mainly library books and also my yarn. I love to lay in bed (especially during the winter evenings) and read and crochet, just like a grandma is SUPPOSED to do. My husband calls these things “my nest”. It used to NOT bother me, but, alas, I AM becoming my mother, and it is starting to make me feel the same way my Prince Charming feels. I need to figure something out.
Again, thanks for your site. Its GREAT!
Becky on September 24th, 2009 11:06 am
I would move the computer and sewing machine. My daughter moved out this summer and I want to move the other girls around and use the smallest bedroom for a sewing room with the computer and desk in there. Hopefully on the Honey Do list this winter.

I’d like to chuck all the low furniture pieces and get some very tall chests. I love my big wardrobe, but it doesn’t fit either and should go (maybe a listing on Craig’s?). Then I would add shelves all around topping the doors and windows. Wish I was younger and spryer so I could do more projects by myself.
Andrea on September 24th, 2009 12:12 pm
For me it would be two things. A stash of old magazines that I never read and really don’t know if I’ll ever get through. I have so many that they’re in my closet, on my nightstand, and on a bookshelf near my bed, too. The second thing would be the TV. We don’t really use it up there, but my daughter likes to have it on in the mornings. It does distract her enough so I can take a shower, but still … it’s not very rest-helpful!
Christie on September 24th, 2009 12:38 pm
I could get rid of a big stack of magazines that are on my “nightstand.” Looks like I’m not the only one who’ll be recycling soon!

One thing I could get rid of that would help make my bedroom a place of calm, rest, relaxation. This is so mean of me, but I have to say MY HUSBAND! Our poor master bedroom has become a weight room, gun cabinet, hunting room, dirty clothes hamper, junk pile UGGGHHH. Move it out to the barn dear!
LaWanda on September 24th, 2009 1:38 pm

Hmmmmm… my husband’s stuff? LOL!
Actually there are several things I would like to get rid of and downsize. I think that I should probably start with my work items that are in my bedroom. I often have work that I bring home to complete and it seems to pile up.
Maybe if I cleaned up that stuff, my husband would get rid of his lovely memorabilia.
Sherone on September 24th, 2009 2:51 pm
I would not feel bad about giving up my husband’s childhood desk. I don’t think he will go for it, though. I think I will move the TV out of there. No temptation, then. Thanks for doing the giveaway!!!

Where to start? The pile of pillows in the corner? Or the stack of pictures leaning against a wall, I havent had time to hang them up yet. Books, books and more books. A clean hamper full of the extra blankets, and piled on top. All the gift wraping stuff, to many dressers that are to small, nothing fits in them. Under the bed? I dont even want to go there! I just need help!

My husband keeps a full set of weights on our bedroom floor for when he works-out. They usually get rolled over against my dresser making it impossible for me to pull open my bottom drawer. I have an oscillating fan in my bedroom and my husband trips over the cord occasionally. I’ll get rid of the fan if he gets rid of the weights!

I’ve made an effort to do this .. I’ve started packing up clothes that don’t fit, my sons in a box, mine, the baby’s. But the boxes with those clothes have been sitting in my bedroom now for over six months! I’d definitely be able to finally get those out of there and take them for donating!

Hhhhmmmmmmm…I would just have to say books and papers. I love to read.

I desperately need to purge my bedroom of old clothes. I have soooo many clothes that I no longer wear (some are no longer the right size, others I just don’t like anymore) but just haven’t gotten rid of and they are taking up space. I’d love to get rid of them and make my bedroom a haven.

Wow, just one thing!? I could narrow it all down into one word… CLUTTER! We have downsized into a 2 bedroom house from a 3 bedroom and anything that we couldn’t find a home for ended up in the bedroom. We have my scrapbooking stuff, clothes, books, an old VCR, and blankets everywhere… I can only dream of a clean room.. =)

I would love to get rid of the pile of random items at the foot of the bed and the fan that has not been used in over a year. I also need to sort through the boxes and boxes of children’s clothes in the closet.

Hmmm. That is tough because today I went through my bedroom and got rid of allot already. I think I could get rid of some of my husband’s shirts – does that count?:) Truely, I could get rid of some of clothing that no longer fits me. I am holding onto them with the fear that I will gain weight. I guess I need to work on positive thinking.

Managing the laundry clean, dirty, somewhere in between- drives me crazy and constantly clutters my bedroom. The computer in the corner with accompanying papers and stuff also needs to go! I am eager to learn some bedroom tips to move this room to a relaxing space rather than the space I dread. MY Master bedroom is the one space that is most out of control in my home.
Amanda on September 24th, 2009 7:35 pm
My computer and the huge desk it is on! I would love to get rid of it and my husband’s tv and game system! Then we could have a relaxing bedroom. lol

I would like to get rid of my stuff I’ve collected in a big bin that I’ve never used, in bedroom. Too many things just sitting in there cuz there was a special on them where I worked at a linen store. Guess I need to donate them or give as gifts. Then there’s a pile of stuff on top of it and never can find the right hat when I need it….ARG! :0)

I would get rid of the old clothes sitting in open boxes in a corner of my bedroom. I keep moving clothes out of closet into these boxes with the intent to give them to a charity but they never seem to leave my bedroom.
Grace on September 24th, 2009 9:56 pm
I have a hard time giving things up and clothes are no exceptions. I have give-aways in baggies, but can’t seem to depart them from my bedroom.

My bedroom is overrun with my unfinished projects. I don’t really want to part with them, but need to find them another home. We live in a small house and there’s not a lot of options here. One strategy is finishing the projects. I am working on that one.

I have a few items I would love to part with. An old desk which takes up lots of space, but holds all my old photo albums. There must be a better way. The photo albums, of which there must be 15 – 20, are big and bulkly and do not match. So nothing looks organized or pretty!
( I could also part with my husbands old clothes, (from high school) Ugh, he’s 60! I know he will never part with them, but had to get that off my chest! lol!

Although there are MANY things, I would have to say parting with the (large) Clifford the Big Red Dog stuffed animal that lies next to me on my bed between my husband and I! He was great to lean against when I was pregnant, but my youngest is now three. I am still in the habit of leaning against Clifford at night and I don’t think it helps either me or my husband, lol! And it is a glaring “red” flag of sentimental, unnecessary clutter in my GROWN-UP bedroom!

Cookbooks! Cookbooks! Cookbooks! They do not fit into my tiny kitchen so I stuffed them next to my bed in my tiny bedroom!
Christine on September 25th, 2009 8:02 am
I definitely would get rid of the multiple laundry baskets holding the clothes my girls have grown out of. Also, the pile of magazines & catalogs next to my bed that I know I’ll never get to. I really enjoy your site!
Dawnette Thomas on September 25th, 2009 8:12 am
Piles of clothes – some the boys have outgrown, some I don’t care for anymore, and then some I don’t know why they are in a pile.
I would just like my room to be a safe and relaxing retreat at the end of a productive and active day.
Jessica Harwood on September 25th, 2009 9:04 am
I kind of feel silly with this but I want to get rid of the bedding that always takes up so much floor space every night when we take the comforter/pillows-etc off the bed to sleep. Or rather I would just love a way to be organized about it. I’d also love to get rid of hubby’s piles of clothes that he doesn’t put in the hamper. :p
Andrea Watts on September 25th, 2009 9:36 am
Everything except my bed and my dressers. I have a very very tiny bedroom and I have no room for anything. I have my clothes stacked everywhere and then they fall off the hangers and get thrown in the floor and have to be washed from all the hair my dog sheds. It is a never ending cycle and these would help me so much in my never ending battle! Thanks!

I would love to part with my husbands side of the closet:) No, really, the people that lived here prior set it up really wonky and it absolutely does not work. We aren’t redoing it until we paint because they also didn’t paint it and it’s a horrible yellow while the room is pale grey, ick.
Deborah on September 25th, 2009 11:34 am
every piece of paper that I have ripped out of a magazine that is blocking my side of the bed. I cut these out/rip them out with the intention of making/doing something and never ever do.

I could get rid of the extra dining room chair that’s in there ! It started out as a place to put on shoes but it ended up being a catch-all and stackable spot . UGH ! I have NO idea where to start on most of this house so the inspiration and direction would be wonderful to win !
Carmen on September 25th, 2009 12:21 pm
We have too much furniture in our room. My husband and I are packed into a small room with a small closet, so we have multiple drawers to put our clothes in, but if we could just downsize the amount of furniture we had, the whole place would look nicer.
Tamara Cogar on September 25th, 2009 12:36 pm
Oh, to be able to get the multiple laundry piles out of my bedroom! ‘Tis only a dream, I’m afraid. I’m guessing organizing my closet, as well as my kids’ closets, would help, huh? Here’s hoping I win!!
Ashley on September 25th, 2009 1:29 pm
I would like to downsize to less furniture. We have two dressers to make up for a small closet. I would love love love to get rid of one of the dressers and find another way of storing our clothing. Great giveaway!! My bedroom is the only thing in our apartment that HASN’T been organized!
