I’m addicted to 3M adhesive hooks!
September 8, 2009 | Filed Under Household | 37 Comments
I have written about my love of 3M products on my blog many times before and so how excited was I to learn that 3M wanted to send me a few of their new products to try out.
So excited!
I was expecting a couple of hooks, I was not expecting this:

I love that 3M chose to show off their products in a lovely basket and packaged them so beautifully. That tells me that detail is important to them and since I’m a girl that pays particular attention to detail, this makes me heart sing. It tells me that 3M takes pride in their products from the top to the bottom. I love companies that GET IT!
I have 3M hooks all over my house. I’m a girl that loves changing things up and 3M hooks, because they aren’t permanent, allow me to do that quite easily. I can put one up and then when I want to rearrange things I can take it down without wrecking my walls. I have NEVER had a problem with them taking the paint off and I use these hooks constantly. Here are a few examples of places I’ve used them around the house:
- to hang towels on the back of the bathroom door
- to hang Christmas decorations
- to hang calendars around my house
- to hang bathrobes and aprons
- to hang tote bags
- to hang picture frames
- to hang chore charts (as seen here)
You can see some more of these uses in action here.
The hooks come in different weights so be sure to select the right one for the job. Oh and did I mention they are re-useable, you just have to put on a new sticky pad and many of the hooks come with an extra one.
3M now has a new line of very cute kid hooks ranging from Disney Cars to Hanana Montana. I’ve got one hanging in my son’s room for his library bag. Practical and fun, what’s not to love!

The 3M Adhesive line is pretty extensive. There are hooks and organizers for pretty much any situation you can think of.
I can’t recommend these enough, they are the perfect organizing accompaniment.
Have fun!
Updated: Whee by the looks of the comments I am not alone in my addiction…he he! Oh and also Kelly made a good point…to make sure you don’t wreck your wall, be sure to take off the Command It by pulling straight down on the sticky thing and do not pull at an angle.

These look like exactly what I need. I can’t quite decide how to organize a few areas, these will let me play around a bit without anything having to be permanent! Thanks for the great tip!

Too funny! I just went on a 3M hook spree this weekend, getting everything off the floor. I made some extra floor space in our first floor closet by hanging up the toddlers’ rain boots (they have those handy rubber handles). I stuck a medium hook on the side of our play kitchen for all the child-sized aprons we accumulated. And I got purses, totes, and bags organized in the upstairs closets.
Love those hooks!

Love them too, I have them everywhere!
The only time I had paint come off was one of the first time I used them and didn’t follow the instructions closely enough… you have to make sure you pull straight down on the sticky thingy…. if you pull out on an angle at all it can take the paint off.

Oh I love me some hooks!
Since I am always trying out new organizing ideas around the house I use command hooks so I don’t make a new hole in the wall and it prevents the eye roll from hubby when I suggest something new.

I love the Cars hook! I’ve got to get one for my son’s room. Thanks.

We love the 3M hooks too! My husband is a Spanish teacher and recently received some ponchos and dresses from Mexico for his classroom. Unfortunately the walls are concrete blocks and so nothing else except the 3M hooks work to hang these up. They help make his classroom look so much nicer!

I love those hooks! We use them all over the house and garage. I’ve never seen the cars one. I am so getting that for my son’s room!

Looks like it was a fun mail day!

I love these hooks just as much as everyone else here. My only issue with them – finding replacement adhesive strips! Stores have tons of hooks, but next to no replacement strips. I use them mostly for hanging seasonal decorations (like Halloween, Christmas, etc.) and finding replacement strips is a constant difficulty.
Still won’t stop me using them though – they’re such a great item!

I love them too! I use them on the bathroom/bedroom doors for the little ones to hang up their towels and PJ’s.
I was actually able to carefully remove one off the door the other day and restick it a little higher up and it didn’t wreck the door and it stuck just as firmly the second time.
Oh, I am envious of that basket!! LOL
Lindsey on September 8th, 2009 6:01 pm
This is an awesome idea for a basket. Loving it, loving it!
brandi on September 8th, 2009 6:08 pm
That is so awesome-I’m sure you are loving the cute basket too and already planning how to use it
I haven’t tried them out before but will look into it. We just repainted and I have so much to hang back up and what better way than w/ something that won’t mess up the new paint! Thanks for sharing!

I really want to use these, but my husband is a FREAK about sticking stuff to the walls. I need more testimony that they won’t ruin the walls. How long have you had them up, then taken them down with no damage? What if you put something too heavy on them and it gets ripped off the wall – will it cause damage?
admin on September 8th, 2009 7:48 pm
I’m using the lovely new basket to store my facecloths in the bathroom
DemMom ~ I’ve had some of mine up for ages before taking them down and I’ve never had a problem. I always use the right weight for the job though so they don’t accidentally get pulled down which I believe can cause a problem. Also when taking them down be sure to pull the sticky pad straight down and not at an angle.
If you are really nervous, try one on the back of a door to see how it goes.
I’ve been very happy with mine.

I use a row of the “metallic looking” hooks above my vanity to hang my necklaces. Use them in the closet for my husband’s baseball caps. Use one on the back of the bedroom door for my robe and nightgown. Use a little tiny one on the wall next to our computer for my husband’s “computer code key thing” from work. Use 3 on the wall next to my fridge for my aprons…Love them!

Glad to read the review. I’ve thought about picking these up, but was scared to pay the money if they didn’t work. They are bit higher then other items. If they work though, then totally worth it.
erica tripp on September 9th, 2009 4:53 am
I have used 3m hooks before and they come off the wall all too easily. Perhaps I put too much stuff on them. Since there are so many positive reviews, I think I’ll try them again…wish me luck!

ROLF – you are after my own heart! I thought I was the only nut that LOVES the command hooks/hangers…..or just anything! Everything in my house has at least one, if not more securing them to my walls! Everything! I have a container in my closet that houses all of the 3M products! Every photo on my walls are hung with them…..well, as you can tell – I just get excited talking about them so I will now. I am so glad that I am not the only one! LOL!!
Take Care,
Shannan

I love these
I recently got the water proof one and have been really please with it. I have them for keeping the kids backpacks upright, some hooks for their jackets behind the front door.
I especially love the picture hanging ones and the picture “velcro” type hanging strips as well
Thanks for the review! I’m going to have to look for the kids design ones for their room

We have been big fans of 3M for years! I also love their bandaids (specifically the NexCare waterproof sport strips). I think 3M is a great company! Kudos to them for sending you such a wonderful basket!
LeAnn on September 9th, 2009 6:05 pm
those hooks are a perfect solution for organizing kids rooms and for preK or elementary classrooms in need of extra places to hang book bags, lunch bags, etc.
WOW!!!!
Chubbie Chica on September 9th, 2009 6:35 pm
A tip that I just have to share. My children seem to knock our photo frames, that are hanging on the wall, and make them crooked! This drives me crazy! I want my portraits to stay nice and straight so I place a 3M velcro picture hanger on the bottom (center)so the photos aren’t able to move on the walls any longer!
Just thought I would share!
Shalyse on September 9th, 2009 6:41 pm
Awesome! I love 3M too and haven’t found that off brands work as well at all. At least they don’t come back off the wall.
Desiree on September 10th, 2009 6:46 am
I’ve been skeptical to try the 3M hooks but from reading this I will definitely be purchasing some! Thanks!
Sue on September 10th, 2009 3:08 pm
I have thought about trying these in the past but was unclear on one thing. Are the hooks re-usable once you remove them from the wall? is there a refill sticky thing so you can use it at another spot?
thanks!
Julie on September 12th, 2009 6:28 am
Sue, to answer your question, yes, there are refill sticky things that you can get. At least in the last hook package I bought, an extra sticky thing was included, so that causes me to assume that you can get them separately too.
Jennifer on September 12th, 2009 7:50 pm
I love these too and just found a Disney Princess hook at an office store. I have them in all shapes and even a few sliver ones. We are doing some decorating at our church and just bought bunches of the picture strips for hanging frames.
For replacement strips look for ‘poster packs’.
Carol Amie on September 14th, 2009 10:11 am
which hook do you use to hang your calendars? i currently have mine with a ribbon through the nail hole to make it work on the hook I bought because it was a bit too big to fit and it’s making me crazy. 9 months into the year and it’s getting to be bad enough that i was going to cave and use an actual nail for the new calendar in 2010. If you could help a girl out I’d be thrilled!
Jennifer on September 14th, 2009 6:48 pm
Carol,
I have 1 w/ more of a silver post that my calendar fits on nicely. On their website they show a ‘wire hook’ and a ‘micro hook’.
Lisa on September 24th, 2009 1:48 pm
wondering if you can tell me which hooks you are using (or which you’d recommend) for hanging your responsibility chart clip boards? I’ve had the hardest time finding something that will hang my busiest of moms calendar. The hook can’t be too think b/c the calendar isn’t make like that. I hang it on the kitchen cupboards. And I’m sure it weighs more than 1/2 a pound. Thank you!
